Canadian lesbian poet wins prestigious book prize

A lesbian writer has been awarded the Trillium book prize for best poetry book.

The Canadian poet Rachel Zolf won the award, as well as $10,000 (£5,010) prize money, for her book Human Resources.

The Trillium Awards, awarded by the Ontario government, is the province's leading award for literature. Aileen Carroll, Ontario's Minister of Culture, said:

"The Trillium Book Award gives us an opportunity to celebrate and promote some of our finest authors.

"The finalists and award winners have all played an important role in fostering a culture of creativity in our province.

"I congratulate each of them on receiving this distinguished prize."

Ms Zolf's Human Resources was recently short-listed at the world's pre-eminent LGBT Literary awards.
