The gay writes movement

Writing Outside the Margins, the gay/lesbian literary festival inaugurated last year, returns for a second go-round. The free event, running Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Church St., between Alexander and Gloucester, features readings, panel discussions, poetry slams, an open mike and a children's area.

Headlining the list of queer scribblers are filmmaker John Cameron Mitchell, who wrote, directed and acted in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, San Francisco poet and spoken word impresario Michelle Tea and singer/songwriter Kinnie Starr, who is about to publish her first book of poems and drawings, How I Learned to Run. Also on the bill are playwright/filmmaker Daniel MacIvor and novelists R.M. Vaughan and Zoe Whittall. For more, go to writingoutsidethemargins.ca.
